Hermosa Cosmetics

It’s TALENT TUESDAY and boy do I have a treat for you guys ta-day! *smiles* This is like one of the ‘hottest’…yes I said HOTTEST make-up artist in Atlanta. She is like the person you go see when you get a pimple the night before a big event *i.e date, prom, interview, etc* and you need some SERIOUS cover-up magic! Yes….she is just that good. Yolanda Parrish owner and MASTERMIND behind the divalicious creations of Hermosa Cosmetics has been ‘beating faces’ *her signature term for applying make-up for you slow pokes* as long as she can remember. It is a true testimony of living up to taking a leap of faith to USE her talents to bless other women and men. Take a look at what we chatted up about recently:

Kimberly Renay: What makes you happy?

Hermosa Cosmetics: What truly makes me happy is my family. If they are well and happy I’m all good. The minute something goes wrong with a niece or a nephew my world is turned up side down. My mom also makes me very happy. She is always there! (even when you don’t want them to be…)

*Loves, Loves, LOVE the eyes!*

Kimberly Renay: Awww that is sweet! I love my peeps too…crazy bunch of folks…*laughs*. So when did you realize that you were blessed with being an artist and when did you decide to embrace it?

Hermosa Cosmetics: I was actually home and out of school for the summer. I went on a job interview at Belk’s Department store. I was interviewing for a woman’s shoe sales position. While I was in the waiting area, a woman came up to me and said, “Who are you?” I told her who I was and why I was there. She looked at me and said, “ You want to work in woman’s shoes?” She had this perplexed look on her face! She made me doubt the shoe sales position that is certain! I was like, “Uhmmmm… no…” She asked me who did my makeup because my skin and makeup was absolutely gorgeous. I told her that I did my makeup and my mom blessed me with great skin! *winks* She looked at me told me to get up and go with her. I was no longer working for woman’s shoes, I was going to work at Estee Lauder. At that moment I wasn’t too sure about the business and how I was going to do. I was surrounded by old ladies with tons of makeup on their faces. But I soon realized that I was good at it. I sold a lot of products and I made women feel good. I embraced it and never looked back!

A model capturing Yolanda’s flawless work!

Kimberly Renay: WOW…that is a story to tell because that sounds like a straight intervention from God! Have you ever wished that you were not blessed with such a great talent?

Hermosa Cosmetics: No way! This is a gift God has given me. I would never want Him to take away MY gift. People think this is an easy job, but it’s not. Long days on your feet, counseling women who have facial scars, some have lost their brows from cancer treatments. I ask God every day to allow me to see the beauty in that person’s face I am touching. It is truly a gift.

Divalicousness right there! *smiles*

Kimberly Renay: That is awesome because some people are just not thoughtful of how their job can really impact another individual, just thinking about being a blessing gives me chills, what types of industries do you do work with?

Hermosa Cosmetics: I am in the cosmetics industry but I also do photo shoots, videos, and runway models. But my greatest clients are my brides! I am in the industry of making brides look GORGEOUS!

Yolanda getting a beautiful bride ready for her big day!
*Yolanda enhanced her beauty! JUST GORGEOUS!*

Kimberly Renay: Your job sounds rather exciting and I can tell that you thoroughly enjoy it! Let’s see, if you had to pick one celebrity to be a make-up artist to, who would it be? And why?

Hermosa Cosmetics: I want to touch Oprah Winfrey’s face so bad! I just want to try something new on her. She is a beautiful black woman and she can change up her look a little bit more for me! I would love to do her hair too!

Oh please don’t get it twisted, she rolls with the best!

Kimberly Renay: I agree…she needs a little bit of your color works…*lol*…Would you trade your talent for anything? If so, what would it be?

Hermosa Cosmetics: I always wanted to be an actress. Believe it or not a lot of people say I am hilarious! I would love to be a comedic actress! If I could only just remember my lines! *HA* Other than that, nope! I will stick to what I am good at!

*All Skin types people!*

Kimberly Renay: That would be a funny and beautiful movie all at the same time! *HA* What has been your greatest moment so far?

Hermosa Cosmetics: My greatest moment would have to be when I left my ‘9-5’ job and decided to do this thing on my own. I decided to leave a corporation and do business for myself. When I got my business license, that was by far the best day of my career. It was a small step, but it was the step that made the difference.

Smashing the scene while at work, Yolanda Parrish!

Kimberly Renay: Taking that step is fun and scary at the same time, and you did it and are loving it! How can my faithful readers get in touch with you to be beautified? *laughs*

Hermosa Cosmetics: You can always find me on Facebook under Yolanda Parrish. Twitter: @eyecandi_82 and my blog!!! It’s crazy! I have up all kinds of stuff! From photo shoots to the Do’s and the Don’ts of makeup!! I love my blog! Check it out www.hermosacosmetics.blogspot.com My website in under construction at the moment but when it’s finished you will be amazed! Also e-mail me at hermosamakeup@gmail.com.

I had a great time finding this talent. And ALL of what I have talked about in my previous post, of leaping out on faith and taking the step to create your OWN brand despite the fears of being unsuccessful, especially when you know you have the gift and brains to do it, she has done it! THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT!! MAN! I just love it! Embrace it, use it, and impact others with it….it’s what we are here for. For Talent Tuesday’s another creation that the Creator has created and His creations NEVER cease to amaze me. Simply wonderful…Who’s next?

Waiting for the perfect conditions…..

…is NOT what you should be doing! You know I must say that I have fallen prey to this thought, feeling, action….whatever you want to call it through my life….but it is a new day! What am I talking about? Your talents and purpose. Have you been waiting for the right time for all of the ideas about your future of being better than your mother and father or the ideas that you don’t tell anyone about because you think no one will listen or buy into your ‘hype’ or the dreams that you have when you see yourself living a life without worry and just being who you KNOW you can be, come true? Well, why wait? *get a snickers* lol…I had to…But in all seriousness, what’s the wait for?

It does not take much you know to actually JUST DO what you have always had the desire to do. It’s like walking with one foot in front of the other….yea like that. It reads in Ecclesiastes 11:4 “If you wait for perfect conditions, you will never get anything done.” (NLT) I didn’t say that….God did!

I said all of this to say, I have gotten so much talk lately about people who have all of these great ideas and talents that I NEVER thought reigned so passionately inside of them, and they are waiting for a miracle to drop out of the sky. Or better yet simple things such as, a better business card, a ‘hot’ website, or more importantly of course, money to ‘do what God has told them to do.’ Think about it, if God gave you a passion and drive to be good at making greeting cards, do you think that He won’t give you the means somehow it make it work? It does not take a fortune to do what God wants you to do. There are many ways to get your talents/purpose exposed *i.e. WordPress* without having a bank full of cash.

So again, I ask that you think about this, why are you waiting for the perfect conditions? My pastor just said this, ‘life is a temporary assignment,’ and we don’t have that much time to waste on thinking about jumping into the double dutch ropes, so to speak, to get excited about life. God gives you a purpose to fulfill and it is up to you to infect others with what God has given you or you will never be satisfied in life. Think about that. We are not here just to take up space. Your stage of success is looking bright to me, the curtains are drawn and there is ONE person waiting for you….so what are you going to do ‘use it or loose it?’

So, this morning I was sitting here with a another agenda on the books and I have been taken for a loop! Today is not going to be a day of long posts or a day of posting pictures. Just a day to say ‘Thank you Lord’ and be in awe of all of the out pour of love.*its a good thing* I guess today is just one of those *smiling* kind of days. One of those days where I just feel like being happy and think of my blessings despite all that is going on around me! How about you do the same, just enjoy it! Get rid of the load and just relax, hear is something to get your day going 🙂

*went on a picnic and this little guy stole a grape!*

Happy, simple, and reflective, that is my day today…..

What would be your 9-5 if you NEVER got paid for it?

I was thinking this morning about something that I wrote back in November 2008 about finding my true passion and talent in life. It’s rather interesting that I wrote this 2 years ago and now I have a blog about finding what your talents are….coincidence? I think not! I wanted to share this with you as a stepping stone to finding out what your talents and aspirations are in life.  I have a treat for you in the next few blogs about how to find out what your talents are step by step if you are not exactly sure of what they are! Keep reading the blogs, it will be worth it!

November 2008

Let’s just say that I am HAPPY that I have found out what God’s will over my life is. He has sent me thru some VERY hard times growing up, and I really see what all of it was for. It molded me into who I am today, and is making me into this passionate woman who has a love for children and their needs. I have always know what I wanted to do in life, but did I know that God’s will for me and my passion line up?? Not at all….it was like a light that went off…and I want to do His will so much because I know that I will be happy!!Some people live God’s will because God provided them with the talent, and they do it,and perhaps is not all that thrilled with it, but I can say that I am thrilled that I LOVE what he has placed in me!!!I can’t say that I have not been one of the folks who was ‘happy’ with my career choice, but I can say that time has passed, I have snapped out of the “American Dream” of chasing money, and I am chasing my CAREER. Chasing your career will allow you to bloom and excel at what you do because you have a passion for it, therefore bringing the money automatically. As the road blocks have been set for me to get my career, you better believe that I am NOT giving up on the gifts and talents that God has placed in me for the community to use.

I said this to say, do what YOU want to do in life, follow YOUR dreams, and be TRUE to yourself. We all say that yes we do what we want to do, and yes we are in control of our lives, but we are also in control of where we are right now too. Are you where you want to be? Have you been living YOUR life because it is what you love rather than for the money or the status? Keep in mind that sometimes we become who are right now because we are afraid of what we will be in the future. We play it safe because we are afraid that our goals may be delayed or it takes too much to get there. Only to realize years later that our dreams were delayed because we were thinking for right now rather than for our future. Think about this:

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that    we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.–Nelson Mandela 1994 inaugural speech.

This is VERY true, think about your happiness and what you could do for someone else when you are truly happy with your career choices, impact another’s life because of your passion. Don’t be satisfied with where you are now if you are not happy, take the steps to progress to the person you want to be, NO MATTER WHAT IT TAKES OR LOOKS LIKE TO OTHERS!!!

*My students & I @ College Summit 2009*

My 9-5 would be a community activist for children who have been sexually, mentally, and physically abused, along with helping children realize their dreams of who they want to be in life thru education, what would be your 9-5?

I know the question is burning inside of you!*image by Google*

So the question still stands today 2 years later…what would be your 9-5 if you NEVER got paid for it? *it’s not a rhetorical question, please leave your comments*

LuXe Lifestyles

OMG! This is one of Atlanta’s BEST party planners, personal shoppers, and retail jeweler! LuXe Lifestyles exemplifies just that, the LuXurious life that we all want every now and then, and it’s all in one place. I had time to attend an event hosted by LuXe Lifestyles,  “The Masquerade Jewelry Ball”, that was absolutely phenomenal! There were models that modeled jewelry as they catered to guest, shrimp cocktails served in martini glasses, crab pasta served in the cutest porcelain bowls, and chocolate shooters to top off the night as dessert. Masks were also provided to all patrons to complete the ambiance, obviously desired by the masterminds behind this event! The owner, Ms. Princess took the time out to answer a few questions about her MANY talents:

Ms.Kim: What makes you happy?

LuXe: Bringing joy to someone else, joy can take on so many forms you would be surprised. Just the idea of putting a smile on someone else’s face makes me happy!

Model serving guest shrimp cocktails *CUTE!*

Ms. Kim: You know I can completely agree with you, something about someone being happy that puts an ounce of joy in all of us. What was your inspiration for the business?

LuXe: LuXe is actually an umbrella for other business entities that I’m affiliated with. LuXe is a Lifestyle and was founded by the Ice Girlz, and it’s a Lifestyle we all want to live so the inspiration was just that in itself. I’m working to live this LuXe Lifestyle and to show others that it’s possible to have anything you want in life, with a clear focus. In order to obtain and maintain that, it takes dedication. So the name is a constant reminder that I have a goal to reach and a name I have to live up to.

One of the lavish displays. *OOOHHH LA LA*

Ms. Kim: So you say LuXe is an umbrella of other businesses that you are affiliated with, give us a little bit about those businesses.

LuXe: Currently we have established LuXe Lifestyles magazine and plan on releasing our first issue January 2011! I’m really excited about that because it’s been a long time coming and it’s worth the wait! Glitsz is our Personal Styling/Shopping service. We also do event planning and of course the bling! We decided to do retail jewelry because of the high demand for the pieces we are known to wear. Every woman loves adornment, and enhancement pieces are always a plus to an outfit! And the great thing about our jewelry is that every piece is listed at a practical price. We felt jewelry parties were a good fit because it incorporates fashion with the events we are known to host.

Ms. Kim: Tell me what inspires you to create such LuXurious events?

LuXe: I love how you put that, LuXurious events!! *smiles* I am a “party planner” at heart. I planned my own sweet sixteen, every detail of it. I paid my own dj, purchased my own food and drinks, and rented the clubhouse, all on my own at sixteen. My mom had no idea I was having a party until the day of when she showed up in shock. To say the least, this is what I do, and I strive to do it well. Theme parties are my specialty and I love the small details. Such as tonight, the posters that were placed all around of Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn were a must for the LuXurious event. Once the theme is established I go above and beyond to bring you the experience. My team is SICK! *laughs* I am blessed to say I have a family FULL of talent and everyone has their piece in this puzzle. It’s a group effort and the results are always amazing.

Marilyn Monroe! *Cute touch to Ball*

Audrey Hepburn made an apperance too!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ms. Kim: Yes I have to agree with you on this one. I have attended several of your events, birthdays, dinners, game nights, and they are ALL just amazingly planned out! And I love, love, love your centerpieces, they are always the center of your events! Would you trade your talents for anything?

LuXe:I wouldn’t! If you’re not happy with what makes you happy, then what’s the point?

Ms. Kim: How can the readers get in contact with you to create happiness for themselves, even for one day?

LuXe: I would encourage sending an email to:luxelifestyles@yahoo.com or call 770-990-6503. *smooches*

Ms.Princess *D-I-V-A*

(sign says, Talent…what’s it to you?)

I have to say sitting down with Princess and her family was a joy. The family was well into making sure that the event went on without any curve balls. From setting up jewelry displays, to making sure that customers purchases were wrapped neatly in gift bags. It takes a great God to plant these ideas and a strong woman to recognize the gift and execute! She is such a creative woman! Excited to see what the next talent will be…is it you?
